The fatest digital mode ever created
Works with HamPass Client.
Import QRG file in WSJT-X (File -> Settings -> Frequencies -> RIGHT click on list -> Import -> select ft2-bands.qrg)
Broken down:
Integration time (+5.23 dB): Same 58 data symbols, but each lasts 48 ms instead of 160 ms — the decoder collects 3.33x less energy
Noise bandwidth (+4.77 dB): 150 Hz signal captures 3x more noise than FT8's 50 Hz
Sync efficiency (-0.28 dB): FT2 actually gains here — 78.4% data symbols vs FT8's 73.4%
Modulation, LDPC, GFSK: all identical → zero loss
Timing recovery (+0.5 dB): tighter tolerance (±50 ms vs ±200 ms)
Predicted FT2 sensitivity: -10.8 dB — measured in the field at -12 dB (IZ8VYF), which is within 1-2 dB of the theoretical prediction. The model is also validated by correctly predicting FT4's sensitivity within 1.5 dB.
